Modernizing SQL server solutions to heighten cybersecurity in São Paulo
February 5, 2018
A Brazilian organization that works with sugarcane farmers in São Paulo, Brazil, was engaged by Accordo to help them optimize their software assets through a License Verification Process (LVP). Accordo had identified licensing shortfalls through Accordo’s data-science analysis of the organization’s software estate. Accordo’s Sales Enablement Team (SET) undertook the challenge to educate this customer about the cybersecurity risks of using outdated software while simultaneously bringing about digital transformation in the organization’s IT infrastructure through a SQL Server upgrade, bringing server software licenses to a compliant status.
Partnering for Success
The SET worked with Mactec Informática, the partner of choice, to review existing SQL Server 2012 technology that was no longer supported by Microsoft and therefore posed a cybersecurity threat to the organization. Accordo consultants highlighted strategic use of virtual licenses to optimize functionality and prevent downtime leading to the purchase of SQL Server Core 2017 licenses. The SET also discovered opportunities to migrate on-premise Microsoft Office solutions to cloud solutions, letting Mactec finalize that upgrade to empower the organization’s employees with a modern solution.
The SET quickly established the organization’s two main problems: use of outdated software and running the organization’s infrastructure on unlicensed software. Once this situation was established, the strategic consultation that Accordo’s SET conducted with Mactec was largely about educating the customer about the risks they were facing with the existing software infrastructure, and about viable solutions that would solve both problems, protecting the organization from threats moving forward.
